Daniel “Goldstripes” Desir

My work brings together production, songwriting, recording, mixing and artist development. Sometimes that means building a song from an idea. Most times, it means helping an artist perceive what’s already there and finding the right way to express it through their performance and the details that bring it into focus.
I care about how a record sounds and how people feel while making it.
Every artist brings a different perspective into the room. My role is to listen, ask questions and help shape music that feels true to them. That can mean developing an arrangement, working through a vocal performance, finding the right texture or giving an idea room to become something unexpected.
From the first conversation to the final mix, I approach the process as a collaboration.
My songwriting contributions include Maïa Davies’ Lovers’ Gothic, which won Adult Contemporary Album of the Year at the 2025 JUNO Awards.
In 2026, I received Sound Engineer of the Year at Ottawa’s Capital Music Awards.
These are milestones that sit alongside the everyday work that has always mattered to me: helping artists make records they’re proud of.
Artist development means helping people build confidence, explore their sound and make decisions about their music.
Beyond the studio, I’ve contributed by leading song camps, providing mentorship, teaching and taking part in industry conversations. My work has included programming with Cranium Arts Project, songwriting sessions through the Songwriters Association of Canada’s Pro Songworks, and international collaboration through PITCH Scotland.
Whether I’m working with an emerging artist, sharing a production approach or joining a room of fellow songwriters, I value spaces where people can learn from one another and create together.
Alongside my work with other artists, I also make and release music as Goldstripes.
My debut single, Happens, arrived in 2022. My own releases give me another space to explore sound, emotion and the stories I want to tell.
Guitar is another thread running through my work, from writing and recording to performing with artists and bands.
I’ve played with Simora, DomLand, Emma Gabriel, BLUE WILL, Kezi and Maurice Moore. Those experiences bring a different kind of connection and perspective that has helped me bring the most to the process of making songs.
